Where to Save Money on Your Cell Phone Bills

Some ideas for saving money on cell phone bills.

  1. Use a provider that most of the other people you talk to use.  Most carriers such as Sprint and Verizon have a feature that allows you to make free incoming and outgoing calls as long as the person you are talking with has the same provider.  Think about the majority of people you talk (parents, girl or boyfriend, friends and siblings) to and what service they have.
  2. Check for upgraded plans.  Many times service providers will update their plan packages.  For example I recently reduced my monthly payment by $5 a month and received all the same features I previously had plus picture mail.  The changes are there, check for them.
  3. Your years of service with a provider can help.  The amount of time you have been with a service provider can sometimes lead to discounts.
  4. Use your work line.  If you have to make a personal call during business hours, use your work line to save on “anytime” minutes.
  5. Nights starting at 7:00pm.  Many plans include free minutes after 7pm.  Some are included and other plans offer it for a minimal upgrade.  Think about it this way if you have to upgrade.  The upgrade is usually $5 a month.  You get an extra 40 hours of talk time a month for an extra $5; in my opinion, way worth it.
  6.  Group plans of two or more can be cheaper than single plans.  If you have a spouse, significant other, siblings or group of friends; getting a group plan can help cut down costs.
